Google Pushes Glass In The Workplace With "Glass At Work" Partners

Google has needed to change its tactics with respect to getting Google Glass into people’s hands. There’s a curious societal backlash against Google Glass that is causing the search giant’s pet project to flounder with the general public, and so the company is working to bring Glass into the workplace.

Google announced its “Glass at Work” program that will bring the tech spectacles to the enterprise and also allow for co-branding opportunities with Glass Certified Partners.

“We’ve been searching for developers who are creating Glassware to help businesses reach their goals,” reads an official Google+ post. “We heard from hundreds of enterprise developers and today we’re excited to announce our first round of Glass at Work Certified Partners. Congrats to APX, Augmedix, Crowdoptic, GuidiGO and Wearable Intelligence.”

The above companies provide services such as real-time access to data; retrieving patient medical records; broadcasting events live; museum tours; workplace training; and more.

Google’s new tactic is actually quite possibly its best bet for Glass. As a consumer device, Glass comes off as a bit of a gimmick; it does some compelling things, but its killer applications are somewhat unclear.

However, there are numerous uses for Glass in other areas, such as those mentioned above. We may see more of Glass in the workplace even as we see less of it around town.
