Dell Goes Thin With Inspiron 14z And 15z Notebooks

Make no mistake, Dell's new Inspiron 'Z' family isn't the same as the Studio 'Z' family launched back in May. The model names may be similar, but quite a bit is different on the machines themselves. Launched today alongside the company's new Studio XPS 8000 and 9000 desktops, these notebooks are powered by Intel's Ultra-Low Voltage (ULV) processors and include internal optical drives.

The Inspiron 14z and 15z both feature thinner, lighter bodies, not to mention what Dell calls "power-sipping" batteries. In fact, these are the thinnest Inspiron notebooks Dell has ever issued, with both models checking in at around 1" thin. The 14" and 15" (respectively) machines can be ordered and customized today, with your choice of Intel's Pentium Core 2 Solo ultra-low voltage, Core 2 and Core 2 Duo processors, a hard drive up to 500GB, an integrated DVD drive, up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM and standard Wi-Fi and optional Mobile Broadband (WWAN).

There's also a choice of a 4-hour or 8-hour battery, which can be 80% recharged in just an hour. The Inspiron 14z and 15z are available in black or cherry red and can be purchased from $599 in retail stores and at www.dell.com beginning today, with worldwide availability in the coming weeks.
