Dell Announces Precision Workstations, Including SFF and High Performance Versions
Dell announced a pair of new entries into its workstation line, the small form factor Dell Precision T1700 and the Dell Precision R7610. The former is an SFF workstation and the latter is 2U rackmount number, and together they show off two ends of Dell’s workstation spectrum. There’s also a new T1700 mini tower available.
The T1700 SFF is about 30% smaller than competitive systems and is designed for easy deployment, and both the small form factor and mini tower versions of the T1700 are intended for educational environments where students are learning 2D and 3D simulations or multitasking.
Dell Precision T1700s
Both run Intel Core (Ivy Bridge) or Xeon processors with the option of upgrading Ivy Bridge to Haswell, and they offer NVIDIA or AMD graphics, PCIx x16 gen 3 slots, a pair of front USB 3.0 ports, and expanded ISV certifications.
The rack workstation R7610 uses Intel Core (Sandy Bridge) or Xeon processors and can be upgraded to Ivy Bridge EP Xeon when it’s available with support for up to four single-wide graphics cards (or up to three double-wide cards) with future NVIDIA GRID computing support for rack-virtualized GPU applications. With GPU pass-through and Citrix XenDesktop HDX 3D Pro technology, the R7610 allows multiple users to share a graphics card’s resources in a virtualized environment.

The unit can handle up to four channels of 256GB memory over 16 DIMM slots (with 512GB availability coming later) and features a 6GBps LSI2308 SATA/SAS controller.
There’s no info yet on pricing for the T1700 models, but they will be available starting on June 4th. The Dell Precision R7610 will cost $2,179 with availability on May 21st.
