CNet Journalists Sue HP
Three CNet employees as well as various family members of said employees have filed suit against HP for invading their privacy.
The damages sought by the plaintiffs has not been disclosed, but it's probably a safe bet that they're not going to be asking for free HP products for life.
The basis of the complaints is that HP representatives obtained private phone records by misleading telephone company employees, otherwise known as pretexing.

“The suits come nearly a year after HP's investigation methods came under scrutiny from law enforcement officials and the federal government. The company acknowledged in September that several employees spied on the three News.com reporters, as well as on journalists from BusinessWeek, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Associated Press. The covert operation was an attempt to expose a media leak from the company's board. The News.com reporters had previously indicated they were likely to file suit.”
All this stemmed from news reported about the notorious leak of information that resulted in HP settling with the State of California and the Securities & Exchange Commission.
