Apple App Store Finishes Strong, Topped $10 Billion in 2013

Apple marches to the beat of its own drum and doesn't partake in the CES festivities, but lest anyone forget about the Cupertino outfit, Apple today announced that its App Store raked in more than $10 billion in 2013. That includes over $1 billion spent in December alone, representing a strong finish to a fruitful year.

The App Store notched nearly 3 billion app downloads in the final month of 2013, thus qualifying it as the most successful month in the App Store's history. To date, developers have collectively earned $15 billion from sales through the App Store.

"We’d like to thank our customers for making 2013 the best year ever for the App Store,: said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. "The lineup of apps for the holiday season was astonishing and we look forward to seeing what developers create in 2014."

The App Store is now home to more than one million apps for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, all spread across 24 categories, including games, business, news, sports, and several others. More than half a million apps are native to the iPad.
