ASUS Unveils Transformer Book V Hybrid Android Smartphone, Tablet, And Windows 8.1 Convertible

ASUS’ biggest reveal at Computex is the intriguing Transformer Book V, a device ASUS calls a “five-mode, three-in-one converged laptop”. The Book V features Windows 8.1 and Android 4.4 KitKat laptop that is also a tablet that is also an Android smartphone.

The 12.5-inch device runs an Intel Core processor and has 1TB of internal storage in laptop mode; in tablet mode, it has 128GB of storage. As a smartphone, the Book V is a 5-inch LTE device with a quad-core Intel Atom processor. Switching between modes is a simple process.

ASUS also has a new pile of Android devices launching at Computex aimed at satisfying a “wide range” of needs including new MeMO Pads, Fonepads, and Transformer Pads, as well as a new Windows 8.1 convertible.

Running on a quad-core Intel Atom Z3745 (1.8GHz), the 7- and 8-inch MeMO Pads offer 1280x800 IPS displays (with one of the 8-inch models sporting a 1920x1200 resolution) with 5MP rear- and 2MP front cameras. The MeMO Pad 8 features LTE connectivity as well as 802.11ac WiFi and NFC. The MeMO Pad 7 will be available in white, black, blue, red, and yellow, while the MeMO Pad 8 is coming in white, black, gold, and purple. (Yes, gold and purple.)

The 7- and 8-inch Fonepads have a different Intel Atom chip (quad-core Z3560, 1.8GHz) with 1280x800 IPS displays, dual front speakers, 5MP and 2MP cameras, and 3G connectivity with dual-SIM slots. You can grab one in white, black, gold, or red.

The Transformer Pads come with a mobile keyboard dock with chiclet keys and, like the MeMO Pads, runs on the Atom Z3745. The 7-inch model has a 1280x800 IPS display while the 8-incher boasts 1920x1200, and they offer dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi and GPS and GLONASS. The 8-inch model also sports LTE connectivity, HDMI output, and Miracast support. The 7-inch Transformer Pad will be available in white or black while the larger model is available in blue or gold.

All of the aforementioned devices run Android 4.4 KitKat.

ASUS also announced the Transformer Book Flip, a convertible that has a 360-degree hinge. This machine rocks up to an Intel Core i7 processor and discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT840M graphics with a full HD 1920x1080 touchscreen display. The convertible features instant-on technology and larger-than-normal speakers, too.
