If you're looking for the world's best boss, he may be at Facebook. But, of course, that all depends on your definition of "best." In Facebook's early days, when competition was fierce and Facebook was still proving itself, Mark Zuckerberg would occasionally order a "lockdown." As you may imagine, such a thing was called for when a huge issue popped up, and he simply couldn't stomach leaving the house until it was addressed. At a recent event in California, Mark actually confessed that "lockdown" still exists today, even after the company went public. He confessed that things are a bit different... Read more...
Is Internet access a human right? That’s the question Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg was wrestling with--”was”, because he stated in a long document that he’s come to believe that it is. And Facebook is doing something about it. Zuckerberg and Facebook, in collaboration with “technology leaders, nonprofits, local communities, and experts”, have launched an effort to deliver affordable Internet access to the two-thirds of the world that don’t have it called Internet.org. Essentially, the group has identified three key areas that need to be addressed in... Read more...
Facebook Home is now available on select handsets and is preloaded on the HTC First (available from AT&T), and Facebook is running a series of ads promoting the deep integration app launcher UI skin...thing. The latest ad shows Mark Zuckerberg giving his team a (surprisingly boring) “Atta boy, you did it” speech at Facebook headquarters, and apparently the actors in the ad are the actual team members that built Facebook Home. At least one of the team members would rather dink around on Facebook than listen to Zuck drone on describing Home’s features, so he’s toying with... Read more...
Well, it finally happened: Facebook has cracked the 1 billion user mark. This was an eventuality that was obviously coming, but it’s nevertheless a staggering thing to behold. In typical Mark Zuckerberg fashion, the Facebook founder posted this understated note this morning: This morning, there are more than one billion people using Facebook actively each month. If you're reading this: thank you for giving me and my little team the honor of serving you. Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life. I am committed to working every... Read more...
Hot on the heels of the Google+ announcement, Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently told reporters his company is planning to “launch something awesome” next week. Speculation around the announcement primarily surrounds the mobile or tablet space, though Zuckerberg didn’t reveal specific details. Over the past few weeks, there has been speculation about various mobile products that may or may not be in development at Facebook, including the release of an application designed specifically for Apple’s iPad. Another possibility would be a specialized application that... Read more...
As enthusiasts, we're always looking for the next great design in computer cases. We're eager to see companies innovate in various areas of design, including cooling, tool-less installation, and style. When we see a new case hit the market, we often hope that it is made of aluminum, includes quiet 120mm or larger fans, and is easy to work in. We like aluminum because it usually looks good and is typically lightweight. We prefer the convenience of tool-less installation features because we are frequently swapping out parts. We happen to have a new case in the labs that meets some of these... Read more...
