Time after time we hear reports from market research firms highlighting declining sales in desktop PC shipments. Taken at face value, it is a wonder that boutique gaming system builders ever bother with high end system configurations, but those quarterly figures don't tell the whole story. For one, the market is still being flooded with hundreds of millions of PCs every year. And secondly, PC gamers have been bucking the overall trend for several years now. Jon Peddie Research noted this in one of its most recent GPU shipments report.
"If anyone doubted that the PC was the platform of choice for gaming, this quarter's results will correct that misconception. The gaming market is lifting the entire market and has overwhelmed the PC market," JPR said.
This is one of the main reasons premium system builders like, Cybertron can offer a high-end, decked out CLX Ra setup, such as the one it sent us, and expect them to very sell. The CLX Ra is Cybertron's biggest and baddest (in a good way) Egyptian-themed, CLX full tower gaming system. Named after the Egyptian sun god, the Ra starts out at $1,400 for a modest configuration, though mortals with a heftier budget can summon exponentially more power. The configuration Cybertron sent us is a top-shelf build that showcases what the company can do when tossing just north of $5,500 at a setup, and it's impressive.
Check any notion of bang-for-buck before reading further, that isn't what this system is about. This is an exercise in excess for those who are in a position to splurge, and not just on a powerful PC but a showpiece system. The result is the pairing of a ten-core Intel Core i7-6950X processor with 32GB of DDR4-2166 RAM and two MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Gaming X graphics cards in SLI. A 512GB Samsung 950 Pro SSD and 4TB Seagate SSHD hybrid hard drive handle storage duties, while liquid cooling and brightly lit fans keep the staying cool and looking good.
