    Need to save my files…..

    Hi everyone,

I have a problem that I would like to share with you. I recently bought a hard disk and had formatted it on my friends system. The installation had no problems and I copied some software in that. But later I found that I could not read some of the files and without my knowing my friend formatted the disk. Now I have lost some important data and need to get back that in any case. Please do suggest some good tools which can help me get them back without much hassle.

    Thanks in advance!!!

I can't help you I'm afraid I don't know much in this area. However if you provide more information as to what tools you used for the format ie. was it just a windows disk or was something heavier used, what file system the drive was formated to, NTFS, FAT32 maybe one of the other members could help you. -Dev

Re: Need to save my files…..

    Welcome to the forums!

There are tools out there to recover data off of a disk that was formatted but it can be kind of pricy. Stellar Phoenix is a pretty good one but like i said earlier it is not cheap. If you can, price around some computer repair shops fees on data recovery. If the data is really important and is worth the money to get it recovered go ahead and do it. If it is not consider it a lesson for next time. Sorry to give bad news on your first post.

    What Laggerzero said.

I've had experience using OnTrack's data recovery software and it restored some data from a hard drive that was formatted and then had another OS installed on top of it.

If you're just looking for pictures, documents, etc...small stuff, I would say pursue data recovery options. If you're looking to recover video files, music, programs and other large things, I'm sorry to say but I think you're out of luck.

One thing I would recommend doing immediately is purchasing an external USB 2.0 drive and putting all of your sensitive data on there. Then when you do reformats and such, just unplug it so you can be sure nothing will get overwritten.

I would suggest that you don’t try any of the softwares in a hurry cause that might make the things more complex. I had a similar problem too and used the data recovery services of a trusted one that made me heave a sign of relief. Its important that you employ the right toll to make things work for you.
