The Internet. You Know; For Girls

The New York Times looked at the Pew Internet and American Life Project's profile of young Internet users, and to their surprise, they discovered that teenage girls outnumber teenage boys in writing blogs and webpages, and building or working on social networking sites.  The only category of Internet activity where boys lead is posting more videos, by a factor of two to one.

“Most guys don’t have patience for this kind of thing,” said Nicole Dominguez, 13, of Miramar, Fla., whose hobbies include designing free icons, layouts and “glitters” (shimmering animations) for the Web and MySpace pages of other teenagers. “It’s really hard.”

Nicole posts her graphics, as well as her own HTML and CSS computer coding pointers (she is self-taught), on the pink and violet Sodevious.net, a domain her mother bought for her in October.

“If you did a poll I think you’d find that boys rarely have sites,” she said. “It’s mostly girls.”

I'm not sure if Nicole means glitters are hard to make, or hard to look at. I vote the latter. But of course, I'm not a teenage girl, what would I know about it? But I agree, the Internet is for girls now. I have noticed that on many of the most popular websites that men visit-- young and old --  there are nothing but girls on them. Lots and lots of girls. I wonder how the Pew study counted those.

"Because creating a myspace and blogging is TOTALLY the thing to do...like you can make your page pink and blue...and like put half naked pics of my 13 year old body up....its totally the cool thing these days!"

LOSERS! my cousin has, as of today, created 36 myspace pages each under a new email address...STOOPID!

    hahahaha

nothing but girls, lots of girls ;)

i think it's that the internet is becoming a social gathering, and there are far more males that are anti- or at least less-social than females.

if the internet was nothing but fast paced, fights, racing and just all around baddassed geekiness, then i think we would take the top

Okay? I meant that EVERYTHING is hard. You know, I'm only 13, I'd like to see you try being my age and making something like I did. It's not like you press a button and go, it takes hard work. And if you haven't noticed, I AM self taught, which means I have to learn everything my myself without a lick of help from anyone? All I get is critizism and no appreciation. And that girl isn't me, I thkn she's that emotalk girl...

The reason there are so many girls online is simple: They're looking to meet computer geeks because they've come to realize that we are the finest male specimens around! ;)

Personally I enjoy drunken stupors, blackouts, nasty spills that lead to concussions, vomiting, migraines and waking up next to women I don't know with no recollection of what ensued the night before.

    jk lol!!!

lol...at 13 =P..sheesh. Coding has never been my forte, I've always been a more artisitic individual..Video editing, video special effects, web design/graphics, etc...the list goes on. I wish I would of learned programming though, but I don't have the patience for the field =P.

I've self taught everything I know about computers. It was definiately a wonderfuly and joyous 13 years =P, and looking forward to the many years to come ^_^.

Curious though, If you had the time and patience to learn anything knew, what would you pick up?
