HP's new policy for media restore and other just plain sucks!!!!

In our IT department, we order HP laptops only for our users that require them. Well lately they have not been coming with media restore CD's. Instead they have gone to a backup partition on the local hard drive. This did not sit well with us so we called. And they said if we want the restore CD's, we'd have to pay for them. HUH!?!?!?!....WHAT?!?!?!....BULLSH!T!!!!!! So we then ask what happends if the hard drive fails..... She then says you need to send the whole unit in so they can replace the Hard Drive. She said it voids the warranty if I touch any of the screws under it. And that also includes the RAM....we asked on that one to......I'm trying to figure this out.....anyone else run into this or find it crap as well? We keep spare drives and RAM on hand because they tend to go out on laptops quite often.

Are we talking about providing your business with consumer end products? If I were you I would move to a more stable business platform for notebooks (even if you have to stick with HP). Something that is the same between all users and then just build an Image for it and ghost it on if there ever is a problem. As far as removing the screws voiding the warrenty, I have never heard of that. There is no way they can really check unless they secure the screws from underneath to check breakage.

Oh and most Comapnies now charge you for the CDs. I know that sounds just plain wrong but that is the way the industry has moved.
