Let's hope Adobe gets off their hands and releases 10.1 for 64-bit Linux soon (they've only released the 32-bit version). I've been using the previous 64-bit beta for a while and it works great (Hulu's completely smooth, even fullscreen 1920x1080).

Sadly, they did not enable the H.264 video acceleration in the Linux 10.1 beta. It would be quite ironic if Moonlight incorporates that feature first.

RE: Flash In The Pan: New Adobe Beta Enables GPU Offloading

Remember when all abandoned Flash and converted to Silverlight?

It was pretty smart of MS to do all their streaming in H.264. Being patented, no open source implementation could be published. They continually feigned cross-platform support via their deal with Novell and apparent tolerance of Moonlight, which was always crippled and one version older than Silverlight.

Eventually, all the other operating systems, without access to YouTube and Facebook apps, died out.

That's when the giant robotic flying scorpions first appeared... in swarms blotting out the sun.

Re: RE: Four-Way SSD Round-Up, OCZ, Super Talent, Mtron

[quote user="AjayD"]

I have to say, I expected a far more pronounced difference between the SSDs power consumption and that of the VelociRaptor. Considering the minuscule difference in power consumption, I would assume that the operating temperatures are also fairly similar.

Nice Round-Up HH. I am really looking forward to seeing how the new 256GB Samsung MLC SSD and Intel's upcoming offerings perform.

they haven't developed anything like S.M.A.R.T. for SSDs yet. Basically
an SSD drive is a certain % larger than its stated size the extra space
is for error correction so when an area on the SSD fails they swap in a
good block from the extra space just like a regular hard disk. SSDs
also have another means to make them last longer. Whenever an SSD is
written to the bits are moved to different areas on the disk so that
the entire SSD wears evenly and one single area isn't always being
written to.

Another factor that willaffect how long an SSD lasts is what type of flash memory is used to create it. Did the vendor use the cheapo MLC flash memory that a lot of usb thumb drives & memory cards use or is made of SLC NAND flash which tends to last 5-10 times longer than the MLC stuff. You would think with the cost of SSDs they would all be made from the SLC NAND flash chips but that isn't true.

Creative ZEN - 16 GB flash mp3, AAC and video player

Found this video on youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVaip9mQu_U

Apparently this thing can play iTunes files out of the box and it takes SD memory cards too

Looks good.
