New OpenPandora Website

It looks like they've unveiled the new OpenPandora site, in anticipation of actually releasing the thing this year. It looks as if they could actually make Christmas, which was what I imagined to be a realistic expectation back when I ordered (The running joke is that this thing has been announced as being "Two months" away for two years).

I've been on the pre-order list for a while, so I'll be sure to post back here with a full review when/if it ever makes it to my doorstep.

For those unfamiliar, it's a portable gaming/computing console just a hair bigger than a DS, but with a much larger and higher resolution touchscreen, two analog nubs, keyboard, and processor powerful enough to play things like Quake3.

I bought a new computer falcon mach V, 6 gigs ram. 7i processor, nvidia gtx 285 card, to play everquest2 game. The mystery is why this set up causes crashes to black screen. over one month of troubleshooting by manufacturer and Sony game tech's has not produced a clue..the computer was even shipped back and tested where they reproduced the problem but then it appeared to be fixed..which computer company attributed to a game update..but when we got the unit back yesterday it crashed to black screen after 3 hours of online game play. this happens only with this particular game. we have tried every set up known , every setting on game , card, monitors known to no avail..anyone have any thing like this happen to them?

I have a 9800GTX+, which should should smoke the 3850 under Linux, so I'm guessing that you're talking about under Windows.

The real problem with running it under Linux is that Wine's DirectX implementation still needs to be optimized for any game that uses versions later than 8.1. I found that I could run it with shaders and settings set much higher if I force the game to detect 8.1 by using "-dxlevel 81" in the launch parameters. This is pretty much the norm for Source games at the moment.

It's weird and a little disappointing, because other games like EverQuest and City of Heroes run at the same speed as Windows (if not faster). I'm sure it will be worked out in time, though.

I downloaded and installed the demo via Steam. Runs pretty slow under Linux+Wine unless you dial down the video settings, but it sure does look good.

Google to buy Valve?

There is a rumor floating around the net that Google are intending to buy Valve (Half-Life/Counter Strike etc.)

Like I said its just a rumor. Apparently Doug Lombardi (Valve PR) dismissed it as speculation.
This reminds me of the time rumors about ATI/AMD merger were flying around.

Why would Google go into gaming? Microsoft have a strong portfolio on gaming and I would imagine Google would want to go for the gullet of Microsoft.

Do I believe it myself? I don't know. Google have stated that they will always do search and won't branch to other areas. However if they can fit search into gaming it would fig the jig-saw piece. Same reasons they branched into email, documents, maps etc. Bring search to new areas. If this is 10% true its worth conversation.

Would I like to see Valve 'sell out', I'm just happy the rumours aren't EA buying them out.

I admit, I will probably crunch with it, but I would game on it as well. Anything for an excuse to play COD4, Prey and Medal of Honor again. I'd also like to see what Need For Speed would be like on it. That rig, with my Logitech G25 steering wheel, would be the next best thing to actually owning a Mustang GT500.
