Okay, I'll buy an external hard drive enclosure and do that. Thanks.

Hey guys, do you know of any programs that can completely erase a hard drive but allow it to be used again? I looked up a few programs that erase your entire hard drive and replace it with a bunch of random ***, but what about a program that will erase everything, and not replace it all with random text, kinda like what a hard drive is like when getting

What would ram be listed under in the bios?
I've seen memtest do that before. Wouldn't worry about it.
Okay good.

It has an intel celeron M processor(weak I know), it came with 512mb of RAM and I added another 512mb of ram to equal 1GB, but the ram I added never showed up on windows. It's a Gateway w34oui laptop and I can't find anymore specs than that. Aside from the fact that the hard drive is a 5400rpm 80GB 2.5" drive. Sorry about that I didn't

Or could it be that it's not working because I don't have enough RAM?

I'm going to go out on a limb and try something. I'm going to try taking out the RAM I recently put in and then try installing the OS again. I have a hunch that the new RAM I put in has some problems. When I first got it, Vista didn't recognize it was there, and with the new RAM it was a total of only 1GB. Low enough that it should be seen

I went though one cycle with memtest and found nothing.

Things were so much easier back with windows 3.1 and 95 lol. Should I really go through several cycles with memtest?

The hard drive is Ultra ATA, and I don't have any computer that is compatible with mobile Ultra ATA. There is a laptop that is compatible with SATA but not Ultra ATA. I looked for adapters online and they do have some, but it would take awhile to get here.

I tried that. It didn't work. It showed it loading, and then showed a black screen and I waited forever for something else to happen, only for nothing to happen.
