  • Re: WinRar not working anymore

Tried an earlier version. Got some results in that I can run WinRar and browse through to my required file to extract. Still does not work when I right-click a Zip/Rar file though. I think this PC is heading towards the reinstall at some stage soon - lots of little niggly things piling up lately. Thanks cc

  • Re: Which Switch should I get?

The Netgear unmanaged switches are quite cheap, and are at the low-end of the market. 3-Com is widely recognised as one of the original switching companies, and has a massive large-business customer-base. Whilst the 3-com ones you are looking at are probably lowish-end too, because they are basic unmanaged switches - they are still of quite high quality

  • Re: Netgear Router problem

OK got this all working ok, except the wireless bit. I want to disable the wireless option on the small DG834 and enable it on the WPN824 so that it is my main wireless connection to the net. What exactly do I need to do to get this working? I have had a rummage in the setup and cannot figure this out.... Do I need to route the WPN via the DG router

  • Netgear Router problem

I have a Netgear WPN824 router which I intend to use to link my laptop, etc wirelessly to my Broadband connection. I needed something with an ADSL modem connection to link this up and have used another Netgear DG834 modem/router. My idea was, to disable the wireless on the DG834 and use the wireless connectivity on the WPN as it has more range. I have

  • Re: Error Loading newdev.dll

This is a completely new install - so I have no internet access as yet (the drivers won't load). When I go into Hardware Devices, there are 3 items with Yellow Question Marks: - Multimedia Audio Controller - PCI Simple Communications Controller - VGA Controller (VGA Compatible) These usually have a problem or two until I get connected to the Internet

  • Error Loading newdev.dll

I am trying to load the drivers for a BT Voyager 105 DSL Modem to install AOL onto a Win XP Pro PC I have loaded these numerous times on my own machine (XP Home) It keeps saying 'Error Loading newdev.dll', then tells me I need Administrative Priveleges to install DSL drivers. I have only 1 user created who is created as an administrator so I

  • RE: Installing AOL Wireless

Your PC looks as if it should run AOL no problems - maybe try to borrow an older disk from someone. I use AOL to load updates onto old PC's all the time and they have no problem. Some of them have been so old, they can hardly take XP in the first place It sounds like they are palming you off.

  • RE: Installing AOL Wireless

OK, I found out what the problem was and I have it working no problem now. The wireless security key which is a 13-digit/letter one had to be put into the Windows Wireless settings in its long 128-bit format as it did not allow it to talk to it otherwise. I used your link above to get into the router settings and copied it from there. All is well in

  • RE: Installing AOL Wireless

Cheers I must admit though, that I have used AOL myself for 10 years and never had a problem with them. Some people seem to strongly dislike them, but I come from N Ireland and we tend to find BT, Pipex, Tiscali, TalkTalk et al are the worst in terms of service. I will try logging onto the router and amending the settings you said - thanks.
