Eight large for a desktop ? Without water-cooling ? Sounds a bit steep, but I'd really like to see HH do a test which concentrated on performance, ventilation, and noise - you needn't, however, devote too much effort to the «[a ]utomotive quality paint options».... Henri

Thanks for the review, Paul ! Frankly, I have difficulty understanding the «space-saving» hype that always accompanies this form factor - after all, the all-in-one does have to be placed on a desk or a table (somehow, I suspect that few will choose to place this 16 kg bemoth on their lap...

Thanks, realneil - that's more or less what I presumed would prove the case ! I also agree that the hop from 8 to 16GB is far more significant than that from 16 to 32GB. With 16GB I can indulge in my unfortunate tendency to have 100+ tabs open on FF Nightly, without worrying about the machine slowing...

On my AMD Phenom II X4 955 rig, I'm presently running 4 x 4GB Corsair XMS3 Vengeance DDR3 PC12800/1600MHz CL9 RAM. Would there really be an observable advantage to running, say, 2 x 8GB with a faster speed of 2133 MHz ? (I don't think my GA-990FXA-UD3 motherboard supports this latter transfer...

Fascinating discussion, but as always, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. That's why I hope that HH will do a test on these fans and others that promise better performance (ventilation/cooling) over stock devices - that would be a great service to readers !... Henri
-
Here we definitely need a test ; do these fans really deliver what they promise ? Will HH step up to the plate ?... Henri

Test ! Test ! Test !... Henri

Thanks, rrplay, for this link ! As the comments you mention make clear, even non-magnetic ethernet jacks do work - otherwise, as I asked above - what purpose would they serve ? - but not as well or as safely as ones with magnetic transformers. One learns a lot hanging around here on HotHardware !......

Thanks, rrplay, the board seems to be working very well with an AMD Phenom II X4 955 processor and 16 GB RAM ! But if, as the article says, « o magnetics means no network connection», why ever are jacks without magnetics produced ? What purpose do they serve ?... Henri
-
Thanks for the Ars Technica link, rrplay ; I have to confess that before reading the report above I was entirely unaware of the existence of any significant distinctions among RJ-45 jacks ! It would seem that the built-in transformers in magnetic jacks provide DC-isolation and help filter noise. This...
