Thanks for the heads-up, Ray ! Perhaps I'm no longer limited to NVidia cards and can now consider replacing my ancient GeForce 7900 GTX with a Radeon model ! As noted in Ray 's article, this new driver is said to work with Ubuntu 12.10 - anybody here know if it also works with 12.04 LTS ?......

We shall see when the sales and earnings figures for the present quarter are released. I'm hoping for AMD - their presence in the market is needed - but I'm not betting on them.... Henri

But AMD is hardly doing this out of the goodness of their hearts - this must be an nindicationl that the firm is having difficulty competing with the new Nvidia Kepler cards. Sounds interesting, but there's many a slip between the cup and the lip when it comes to switching between integrated and discrete graphics. How about an in-depth test of at least one of these 7000M cards ?... Henri

Just wish AMD could be convinced to release graphic card drivers that play nice with Linux OS ! I'd very much like to install an AMD card (not a 7970, but in any event something powerful enough to run a 2560 x 1600 monitor) in a newly completed build, but fear the well-documented problems that occur...
