I just played through the L4D2 demo. It's pretty good.... It didn't strike me as being wildly different from the first one though (which isn't a bad thing). It seems to play fine under Wine 1.1.32 in Linux, with all effects turned to high and shaders at very high (I was playing in 1360x768...

VMware's 3D support is actually pretty good. I remember trying it on Linux a while back, and games like CounterStrike Source looked great. Another option: VirtualBox. VirtualBox is free software (but as with VMware, you still need a licensed copy of Windows) and has 3D support via shared code from...

Also of note to Windows users: The installation CD includes Wubi (http://wubi-installer.org), which lets you install the entire OS into a directory on your existing Windows partition from within Windows (just put the CD in the drive with Windows running and follow the installation prompts). And it's...

I still have my Win98 CDs from back when I had an MSDN subscription. I haven't booted it in a year, but it ran great under Qemu, as I recall. I was using it back when ClrMamePro wouldn't run under Wine.

Wow... that is an ugly font problem! Which version of Wine are you running, and did you install the MS core fonts? I do not have the same issue, using the latest Git. I restored the .wine directory I had been using in my 8.10 setup, but there was nothing too special about it. Maybe give winetricks (...

I believe the problem had to do with accessing the friends list/chat inside of a running game. I never used that feature myself, but I understand a lot of other people were missing it.
