  • Re: New L4D 2 HD trailer

I just played through the L4D2 demo. It's pretty good.... It didn't strike me as being wildly different from the first one though (which isn't a bad thing). It seems to play fine under Wine 1.1.32 in Linux, with all effects turned to high and shaders at very high (I was playing in 1360x768...

  • RE: Intel Launches New TV-Oriented SoC; Predicts TV Revolution

    >> The fusion of the Internet and television, once thought to be as natural as peanut butter and chocolate, has proven to be a tricky problem for would-be content producers. I'm pretty sure that I know why that is: Every "product" has concentrated on how to make the most money off...

  • RE: Left 4 Dead Free To Play Via Steam This Friday

I was excited, so I tried it under Wine. It worked perfectly. But, as it turns out, THAT GAME SCARES THE HELL OUT OF ME. Coming from a guy that's laughed his way through every Romero flick, that's somewhat of a ringing endorsement I suppose. But no way am I going to buy it: more fun to laugh...

  • RE: Ubuntu Linux 9.04 'Jaunty Jackalope' Out Now

Also of note to Windows users: The installation CD includes Wubi (http://wubi-installer.org), which lets you install the entire OS into a directory on your existing Windows partition from within Windows (just put the CD in the drive with Windows running and follow the installation prompts). And it's...

  • Re: Wine 1.1.14

Wow... that is an ugly font problem! Which version of Wine are you running, and did you install the MS core fonts? I do not have the same issue, using the latest Git. I restored the .wine directory I had been using in my 8.10 setup, but there was nothing too special about it. Maybe give winetricks (...

  • Re: Wine 1.1.14

I believe the problem had to do with accessing the friends list/chat inside of a running game. I never used that feature myself, but I understand a lot of other people were missing it.

  • Re: Tanka's Unofficial Warhammer Online Sweepstakes

Official Entry: I would play for the Empire, because Stormtroopers get all the chicks. Wait, I've been handed a note indicating I'm an idiot. I'm Chaos then. -------------------- On a side-note, I'd actually be playing "Submit a lot of Wine bugs, because it still needs a lot of manual...

  • Wine 1.1.14

I just saw that Wine 1.1.14 was released, and it looks like they fixed the Steam Friends feature! I'd install it, but I'm backing up my system at the moment so that I can test the latest Kubuntu alpha installer and rebuild everything as Ext4. www.winehq.org/announce/1.1.14

  • Direct3D support coming to VirtualBox!

Check out the details here: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=NzAyNA . I haven't tested the patch yet, but it looks very cool. This should bring more eyes onto the WineD3D code, as well as testing from new angles (separate of Wine's re-implementation of all other Windows...

  • Re: Linux (Kubuntu)

    >> am getting the general feeling that a lot of programs aren't supported for the Linux OS as they are for MS OS's, true or false? The first thing to understand is that you're likely talking about Windows Applications. Linux and Windows are entirely different operating systems, with...
