• RE: Valve Introduces Left 4 Dead 2: The Passing DLC, New Weekly "Mutations"
Great idea! Don't keep quiet about it... is there a place/person to whom you can submit this idea?
I wasn't going to, but I did it just for you. :) After looking around, I submitted it to the two places where I hope it might get noticed. First...

  • RE: Valve Introduces Left 4 Dead 2: The Passing DLC, New Weekly "Mutations"

Sorry I didn't get to play L4D with you and your bud yesterday Bob. I was letting my son use my account to play Portal at the time you guys got online. That's the one bad thing about Steam: There's no way to transfer games. I've already beat Portal, but I can either a) buy it again for...

  • Re: Steam for Linux for real this time?

Yeah, I'm pretty psyched too. Unfortunately, there's no way to tell if this is just a pet project of one of the devs, or if there's a set internal direction to eventually support the Linux desktop. I guess we won't really know until Valve makes an announcement. Working on Linux support...

  • Re: Steam for Linux for real this time?

Oh my... I saw another post where a guy made some educated guesses at the URL and found THIS FILE out on Valve's servers. I was able to download the files from the public/client directory of their store.steampowered.com server. In addition to the standard Steam directories, they contain a directory...

  • Re: Steam for Linux for real this time?
But I don't think gaming companies will be making games for Linux. I don't know if Valve will jump on the linux bandwagon either.
You do know that they already make the Source Dedicated Server for Linux, eh? (I run it on my arcade cabinet for CS...

  • Steam for Linux for real this time?

I'm not going to hold my breath hoping this means... what I hope it means, but I saw this post over at Phoronix , that included the following part of the shell script used to bootstrap Steam on a Mac: if [ "$UNAME" == "Darwin" ]; then PLATFORM=osx32 # prepend our lib path to LD_LIBRARY_PATH...

  • Re: Orange Box $8.00!

Okay... at $10, even I couldn't resist buying it. I'll probably only ever use it to test for Wine regressions, but maybe the kids will play it. :p Here's one thing I didn't know about Steam: If you buy a bundle package like this, and you already own some of the games (I already owned...

  • Re: Orange Box $8.00!

I bought it just there now, cost in total (incl VAT) €9.99, so whatever that is in dollars I guess. Also because I already had Half Life 2 I'm allowed give it as a gift to a friend.

  • Re: Wine 1.1.14

Wow... that is an ugly font problem! Which version of Wine are you running, and did you install the MS core fonts? I do not have the same issue, using the latest Git. I restored the .wine directory I had been using in my 8.10 setup, but there was nothing too special about it. Maybe give winetricks (...
