• Re: Wine 1.1.14

I believe the problem had to do with accessing the friends list/chat inside of a running game. I never used that feature myself, but I understand a lot of other people were missing it.

  • Re: Tanka's Unofficial Warhammer Online Sweepstakes

Official Entry: I would play for the Empire, because Stormtroopers get all the chicks. Wait, I've been handed a note indicating I'm an idiot. I'm Chaos then. -------------------- On a side-note, I'd actually be playing "Submit a lot of Wine bugs, because it still needs a lot of manual...

  • Wine 1.1.14

I just saw that Wine 1.1.14 was released, and it looks like they fixed the Steam Friends feature! I'd install it, but I'm backing up my system at the moment so that I can test the latest Kubuntu alpha installer and rebuild everything as Ext4. www.winehq.org/announce/1.1.14

  • Direct3D support coming to VirtualBox!

Check out the details here: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=NzAyNA . I haven't tested the patch yet, but it looks very cool. This should bring more eyes onto the WineD3D code, as well as testing from new angles (separate of Wine's re-implementation of all other Windows...

  • Re: Which Linux Do I Need?

All linux distros let you type commands in terminals (the command prompt you're referring to). In Ubuntu, go to Accessories|Terminal from the Gnome menu. Alternatively, there's a cool feature where you can use one of the six full-screen terminal sessions that are automatically started in the...

  • Re: Linux (Kubuntu)

    >> am getting the general feeling that a lot of programs aren't supported for the Linux OS as they are for MS OS's, true or false? The first thing to understand is that you're likely talking about Windows Applications. Linux and Windows are entirely different operating systems, with...

  • RE: Windows 7 Up Close and Personal

Calculator Plus looks like it was created with MS Paint and VisualCobol. Anyone that wants a really good calculator should try SpeedCrunch ( http://speedcrunch.org/en_US/index.html ), which is freely available for all OS's and is the default calculator in Kubuntu 9.04.

  • RE: Windows 7 Beta Now Available

Very nice desktop, Bob! Shortysdohdoh - Following up on what Bob said: KDE is one of the two most popular desktops available for Linux (The other being Gnome). The particular distro I'm running is Kubuntu . Regular Ubuntu use Gnome and the GTK toolkit by default. Kubuntu is Ubuntu with KDE and defaults...

  • Re: RE: IE, Windows Market Share Take Hits in 2008
Like Steam
Steam doesn't require IE6 to be installed under Wine. I have IE6 installed to a completely different prefix than the one I use for Steam.

  • RE: Windows 7 Beta Now Available

    >> Windows 7 is enough to kill Linux on the desktop The Inquirer's posted a lot of obvious troll headlines to drive up visits, but that one takes the cake. There's nothing factual in the article to back up his Linux put-downs, and he's entirely apologetic for the problems he encountered...
