Thanks for the Ubuntu-One tip, 3vi1 ; I do a fair amount of re-installing of Ubuntu versions on multiple machines, and using U1 in the manner you describe above would certainly spare me a lot of work ! I presume that you don't have to copy those configuration files one at a time for each application...
