Clem- What folding clients are you using?
To tell you the truth, and coming from a medical background, Stanford team hasn't done much with the computer power available to them. Given the same power to Dr. Ghiorse over at Cornell or Dr. Guidotti over at Harvard and you'd have seen a couple of Field medals by now.
But I think F@H isn't as much about helping science, as much as it has become a competition between highly competitive computer geeks.
With that in mind...Yay, i'm 175th and climbing!!
@transam02: The Windows system tray version 6.23, build of November 26 2008. Its shortcut is in my Startup folder but it doesn't launch at startup; when I do it manually it always gives me the UAC dialog asking me whether I really, really want to perform the action I, a college-educated adult, just did on my own computer. (Sorry. I'm annoyed at Win7 at the moment.) I did reduce the length of time between checkpoints, as my computer crashes and restarts 5 or 6 times a day.
@gibbersome: I have to take peoples' word for whether it's actually doing anything good, but I hope it will. I've gotten my entire improv class into folding; and you're right, I do like the rankings, but more than that I like the idea of being a small part in good works. As do all of us, I believe. It's just a wonder that my old AGP 8x Radeon 3870 is able to do much at all!
