It's a great time to be an aspiring game developer. There are some big time resources available, such as access to Unreal Engine on a subscription basis for $19 per month, which was just recently announced at the 2014 Game Developers Conference (GDC). If you weren't enticed to subscribe before, perhaps the UE 4.1 update will push you over the top.

It's the first major update to UE since its public launch last month, and with it comes official support for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, SteamOS and Linux. In other words, just about all of the major platforms are covered. For you console fans, if you're a registered Xbox or PlayStation developer (that includes members of the ID@Xbox independent developer program), you can receive access to UE's complete source code for your respective platform at no extra cost.

"The 4.1 update also includes SteamOS and Linux support, refined iOS and Android workflow, new game templates both for C++ programmers and designers using Blueprint visual scripting, and more than 100 improvements based on community feedback," Epic Games stated in a press release. "In addition, Epic’s Elemental demo is coming later today for free for subscribers to download from the engine’s Marketplace so that developers can learn from its construction and use its assets in their own projects."

Unreal Engine also includes new project templates, and new collection of built-in editor tutorials, a scene outliner folder system, asset deletion assistant, remapping viewport controls, debug histogram visualization, and a whole bunch more.

Go, Go, Go!!

Dogs are great judges of character, and if your dog doesn't like somebody being around, you shouldn't trust them.
