Our very small rural town surprisingly already has fiber connections to each and every home. However we only get around 10Mb download and 3 upload for around 120 per month. I've been told it's capable of gig speeds IF you want to pay even drastically more for it. There's nothing but monopolies around here. There's even other companies around here that could compete, but they all have agreements to not stop in each other's territory/small towns.
I wish Google Fiber would step in everywhere.

Australia was getting fiber to every home, however they stopped due to massive blowout in costing.
I only got "high speed" internet last year around January. It is all that this area provides and we had been waiting years for them to actually bring high speed to our town. Before that all we could get was satellite. 3Mb down and 1Mb up. Paying about 70 bucks a month for it too. it's pretty much the best package they offer except for the business class ones but those are only 10 down and 5 up. Small towns aren't great for internet apparently lol
