For months on end, the Xbox 360 outsold every other major game console on store shelves. But then, the next-generation war began, pitting the Xbox One against the PlayStation 4 and the WiiU. My, how the tables have turned. The NPD Group's latest research report shows that in January 2014, the PS4 outsold the Xbox One, and by a health 2-to-1 margin.

A Sony spokesperson stated that demand has remained "incredibly strong" for the PS4 console, even after the holidays, making it the number one next-gen console to kick off 2014. Not surprisingly, he was quite proud to "nearly double" the sales of the nearest competitor.

In terms of software sales, Call of Duty: Ghosts continues to rule, though interestingly, the breakdown in sales revealed that more copies of Ghosts were sold to Xbox One owners in January than to PS4 owners. After that, NBA2K14, Battlefield 4, Assassin's Creed IV, and GTA V took top honors.

These studies tend to show varying data each month, with gaming demand being about as unpredictable as the wind. Watching how the rest of Q1 plays out should be quite interesting. It's very obvious that the same thing which hurt Sony in the PS3 war (it's high price tag) is the thing that's helping this time. Sony's base console starts out $100 less than the Xbox One, and when it comes to gaming, price matters. Perhaps a few more months with a silver medal will convince Microsoft to engage in a price cut -- we wouldn't hold our breath, but we've heard of wilder things happening.

Well I did my part and bought the Xbox One ,well my wife and son did by buying it for me for Christmas. I will get the PS4 later in the year. Just not sure what to do with the old ones, I guess save it for my grandson(he is 2 so I still have a while ). I hate the fact that I have all those racing games for the Xbox360 and the PS3 that I can only play on those machines. I do not have the room on my desk for 4 consoles. I moved the PS3 to the family room TV to make room for the Xbox One

No matter what I still ONLY play racing games on the consoles and play shootem up games on the PC.
