The touch revolution kicked off in earnest quite a few years ago, but as you'd expect, it's taking a little bit for the rest of the industry to catch up. While select apps have been optomized for touch, some are still in the oven. When it comes to Mozilla's Firefox, the company is letting the world know that it'll be joining the fray very soon. In fact, Firefox for Windows 8 Touch Beta is being released today for those willing to test things out and accept a few hiccups along the way.

It's a redesigned Firefox, with a tile-based design that feels right at home on the Windows 8 start screen. It's built for tablets, touch-screen laptops and "other compatible devices," including all-in-one PCs. Firefox for Windows 8 Touch Beta supports Touch and Swipe gestures such as ‘pinch to zoom’ and one-touch swipe transitions. Moreover, you'll find full, snapped, and fill views, and Windows Share integration allows you to easily share a complete page or a snippet or content to any of your social networks.

Mozilla cautions testers to see Firefox Beta as their default browser before digging in, but otherwise, feel free to give a new and improved Firefox a whirl. We suspect that the final version will be out shortly for those who aren't down with installing anything other than a final edition.

Hopefully this means Win8 touch users will finally get a good Metro browser. IE is too slow and Chrome Metro/touch is just a nightmare.
