Talk about closing out the year with a bang. The CyanogenMod team has plenty of reason to celebrate going into 2014, not the least of which is notching over 10 million downloads of its installer software to date, according to the CyanogenMod stats page. The most popular version so far is the Nightly-10.1 build -- it's been downloaded more than 1.1 million times alone.

Samsung Galaxy S device owners have proven the most eager to try out CyanogenMod's installer. Collectively, this group of users has installed CyanogenMod on over half a million Galaxy S handsets, followed by the Galaxy S II with just shy of half a million and the Galaxy S III representing an additional 461,501 installations. That's around 2 million total installs spread across the first three Galaxy S phones.

There's no doubt CyanogenMod got a boost in downloads while it was available in Google Play. Unfortunately, Google forced the developers to remove the installer based on the claim that it encourages users to void their device warranties. One might surmise that Google isn't real keen on CyanogenMod, but it's more likely the search giant was pressured by its hardware partners. Just a few weeks after removing the app, Google certified the Oppo N1 CyanogenMod phone to run the Google Apps suite legitimately, making it the first phone outside of Google's Open Hardware Alliance to receive its stamp of approval.

So, what's in store for 2014? It's a brave new world out there for the taking, and CyanogenMod could potentially be huge. Investors certainly think so, as they recently pumped $23 million in funding into the company, on top of a previous $7 million funding round back in September. In short, things are looking very good for CyanogenMod.
