In November, Google and HP halted sales of the HP Chromebook 11 due to a potential problem with the device’s charger. After presumably further investigation, Google and HP are now officially recalling the chargers, as there are nine reported cases of “chargers overheating and melting during use”, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

In one case, a consumer actually experienced a “small burn”, and in another a pillow was slightly damaged. The pillow damage is actually something to be really concerned about, as if it had actually caught fire it could have caused a serious fire and/or injury.

The faulty chargers have micro-USB connectors and bear the model number MU15-N1052-A00S. The CPSC suggests contacting Google about a replacement part, which you can do at (866) 628-1371 or online at Google’s chromebook website.

Google had previously advised that in the interim users could charge their HP Chromebook 11s with any “Underwriters Laboratories-listed micro-USB charger”. The recall affects about 145,000 units.
