Hang tight, Moto X owners. If you're not already knee deep in Android 4.4 KitKat, you soon will be. Motorola is letting the world know that the most delicious version of Google's open source operating system is headed to the Moto X, the first smartphone manufactured in the United States, via an over-the-air (OTA) update.

It's easy enough to check if the upgrade has arrived. On your Moto X, just navigate to Settings, About Phone, and System Updates.

Verizon Wireless actually became the first wireless carrier to feed Moto X owners a serving of KitKat, which it began rolling out last week. T-Mobile was next in line, and word on the web is that AT&T has begun doling out Android 4.4 to Moto X owners.

So, what can you expect once your Moto X has been upgraded to KitKat? Android 4.4 introduces a more polished design with improved performance and some new features. Among them is the ability to interact with Google Now without using the touch screen -- simply speak, "Ok Google" to launch voice search, send a text, get directions, or play a song.

Faster multitasking is also part of the packages, along with a smarter caller ID that will look for matches from businesses with a local listing on Google Maps if the phone number calling isn't in your contacts.
