Blockbuster deserves to be shut down. When Netflix and eventually Redbox (which in lower income areas ultimately helped kill off Blockbuster faster than netflix did) Blockbuster was king of the heap with enough resources and financials to perhaps compete in some way but sat on its arse far too long. By the time they introduced their mail-to-home rental service Netflix had already amassed a fairly large cult following with blockbusters only advantage being that you could also pick up movies in store rather than wait for mail delivery however netflix online streaming and and Redbox both popped up offering more convenient and cheaper options. That was the death knell for Blockbuster, just couldn't adapt fast enough.
I dont know about deserved to be shut down but May this once iconic company that was a great part of my child hood and still part of my life(since it was only place to get newer the quickest) RIP. i will personally miss you. Now lets see whats on netflix...
I used Blockbuster as far back as 25 years ago....over the years they upset me many times with sending a day late return to collections, and their persistence to collect those fees. It is a standard business practice, but for a couple dollars....it came off as more of an impolite thing to do. I was not late often at all, but occasionally this would happen and I was in no way in the mood to deal with be collected on. Especially for how often I rented. I think these unfriendly practices were the beginning of their demise. Many people would always go to the nearest competitor over blockbuster and of course, these competitors were always awesome friendly places. Most willing to wipe an occasional late fee off without batting an eye. I would never give anything with the blockbuster name any business. Too many great ones out there now.
hollywood video was better, I never liked blockbuster. 5 day rentals including new releases? gee whiz!
