Hi folks, to start with the tech specs.:
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77-HD3
CPU: Intel i5-3570K
Graphics card: VTX3D Radeon HD 7850 X-Edition 1 GB
HDD: Samsung HD154UI 1.5 TB SATA
DVD/RW drive: Samsung DVD Writer SATA x24
PSU: OCZ CoreXstream 500W
Basically, as the title of the post shows, the graphics card is not being recognised in the PCI-e x16 slot on the MoBo. It appears and seems to work perfectly ok (not tried any gaming yet) when it is in the x4 PCI-e slot, however. I have asked a friend who is baffled as much as I am.
Could it be a lack of power issue? Should it being in a different slot affect how much power it draws?
I look forward to your help and responses.
Thanks,
Matt
If your PSU is capable of powering your GPU in the x4 slot it can power it in the x16 slot equally as well.
Personally, I'd check the pci-e x16 slot and verify there's no physical damage within the slot.
Otherwise, I did manage to find a bit of information around the web. Mostly obvious stuff though.
1. disable integrated graphics
2. check your bios settings.. I've personally never had to do this, however I'm sure you could play around and figure it out. I know there's settings in there specifically for pci-e.
I have had a few PCI-E x16 slots die on me in the past.

I've also had one fail, and that was my first thought when I saw this post. When mine failed, the slot looked to be in pristine condition, too!

Thanks for your reply... The mobo is brand new out of the box yesterday though! How often do mobos not work out of the box? (That is a genuine question, not being sarcastic!)
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll give them a go and let you know if it works!
Don't know what did it (I disabled the integrated graphics in the BIOS and changed one of the display settings) but it's now working, so thanks very much, Dorkstar!
I bet it was set to not run video through the x16 slot
Glad you got it working, Clemmenza!
