While Apple works feverishly to squash bugs in its 6-month-old iOS 6 software, rumors are already starting to spread about iOS 7, including talk of a delay. Take that with a grain of salt since Apple hasn't announced development of iOS 7 or provided a release date of any kind, but nevertheless it appears development has fallen a bit behind.

News of the delay comes from John Gruber of Daring Fireball, who claims that work is so far behind that Apple's gone and pulled engineers from OS X 10.9 to work on iOS 7. His claim coincides with separate rumors suggesting Apple will announce a new iPhone model in June at its Worldwide Developer Conference.

iOS Devices

One possible reason for the rumored delay is the addition of designer Jony Ive to the iOS team. Ive is the Senior Vice President of Industrial Design at Apple, and it's said that he's working to make some major (and super secretive) changes to iOS.

"Regarding Jony Ive and iOS: Word on the street is that iOS engineers with carry privileges all have some sort of polarizing filter on their iPhone displays, such that it greatly decreases viewing angles, thus making it difficult for observers to see the apparently rather significant system-wide UI overhaul," Gruber stated on his blog.

This could turn out to be a big summer for Apple, which is rumored to release an iPhone 5S, a low-cost iPhone model, and an overhauled look to iOS.
