So long, THQ, and thanks for the pie. The North American game developer and publisher responsible for Saints Row, the Red Faction Series, Company of Heroes, and other titles auctioned off its assets to competitors for around $72 million.

"We were hoping that the entire company would remain intact, but we expect to hear good news from each of the separate entities that will be operating as part of new organizations," THQ boss Brian Farrell and President Jason Rubin penned in a letter to employees. "For those THQ employees who are part of entities that are not included in the sale, we are confident that the talent you have displayed as part of THQ will be recognized as you take the next steps in your career."

Koch Media made out like a bandit in the fire sale by acquiring game development studio Volition (developer of the Saints Row and Red Faction games) for $22.3 million. It also purchased the Metro franchise, including rights to the upcoming shooter Metro: Last Light for $5.9 million.

Sega added another $26.6 million to THQ's going away party in exchange for Relic, developer of Warhammer 40K and Company of Heroes 2. Take 2 purchased Evolve for $10.9 million, and Ubisoft acquired THQ Montreal for $2.5 million and the license to South Park: The Stick of Truth for $3.26 million.

Crytek spend the least amount of money picking over THQ's bones, spending $544,218 to acquire the Homefront license.

THQ filed for Chapter 1 bankruptcy in late December. At the time, the company was hoping to emerge from bankruptcy debt free and with a "new start."

Guess it was a good thing I picked up that THQ bundle when I did.

THQ actually had a good bit of games I really liked. Glad to see the IP go on, but I need to read up on what is happening to each dev group.

I also picked up the Humble THQ bundle. What a deal.
