Windows 8 opens up a whole new world of possibilities in computing, and one of the recurring themes we've seen thus far is that of the convertible laptop. There are plenty to be seen at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, including two from Lenovo.

The first is the ThinkPad Helix with a "groundbreaking 'rip and flip' design" that transforms the 11.6-inch Ultrabook into a powerful Windows 8 tablet.

Lenovo Helix

It's equipped with a Full HD 1080p IPS (In-Plane Switching) 10-point multi-touchscreen panel with pen touch input and Gorilla Glass, up to an Intel Core i7 processor (Ivy Bridge), up to 8GB of DDR3-1600 memory, up to a 256GB solid state drive (SSD), two USB 3.0 ports, mini-HDMI and mini-DisplayPort output, dual HD 1080p webcams, NFC support, 4G LTE radio, and Windows 8 Standard or Windows 8 Pro.

Whereas the Helix is aimed at business users, Lenovo's IdeaPad Yoga 11S is the "world's first mini Ultrabook" designed for home consumers, and is a follow-up to the original Yoga. It too sports a 10-point multi-touchscreen IPS display that measures 11.6 inches (albeit 1366x768) though it's a little less powerful with up to a Core i5 processor.

Yoga 11S

"Like its predecessor, users can work with Yoga 11S as a laptop, or flip the screen around to turn it into a great sized tablet," Lenovo explains. "Even convert Yoga 11S into Stand or Tent modes for a space-saving way to watch movies, as it's tuned with great Dolby Home Theater audio and smooth Intel integrated high definition graphics."

The ThinkPad Helix will be available in late-February starting at $1,499, and the Yoga 11S in June starting at $799.

I would like to see a refresh of this like they did for The Yoga 13. I've seen the Haswell version out there but would still like to see an upgraded screen at least thrown in as well.
