This is BEYOND cool! It's easy to get jaded these days about new technology "well, my iPhone should be running faster". But 3D printing is one of the few modern advances that still leaves me gobsmacked every time I hear a story about it. I wonder if this is what it felt like to hear (good) news from NASA in the 60s.
I read this article this morning and was damn near speechless. To think you can literally go down the street and have someone build your disabled child a suit made of printed plastics is amazing. I honestly think these machines will be near as revolutionary as the home computer was. Imagine all the DIY kits that will come out to build everything from power supplies to airplanes.
Now... I wonder if they'll have medical/sterile versions of these devices for use in the surgical environment. I'm not too sure what they could it for as generally everything is metal, but who's to say they won't discover a cheaper more durable plastic to be "printed" to exact measurements when the need arrives?
Simply amazing. The wonders of technology. I am so happy to hear the good that can be done with this tech.
And they say technology is bad...
Well, it is sometimes...
But this is a great story! I'm glad to see something a little more practical came out of 3D printing other than printing simplistic things such as a wrench.
