Technology moves quickly in the era that we're fortunate enough to live in, but unfortunately, that means that some services just can't last forever. Of course, it's up for debate whether or not the masses even wanted Verizon's mobile video service to survive, but it probably wouldn't be shut down if the user numbers were huge. As smartphones have evolved and mobile video has splintered, Verizon's Vcast Video service has become unnecessary. It was launched in 2005, and less than a decade later, it'll be shut down. December 15th is the last day it'll be on the air, so to speak, but NFL Mobile lovers will still be able to see gamers using the NFL Mobile app for $5/month.

“Verizon Wireless is constantly working to bring the best experiences to our customers. To better serve the demands of consumers, on December 15, 2012, Verizon Video will be shut down from use. This will allow us to focus on bringing you the best video experience in wireless.” That's the statement made by VZW on its web site regarding the change.

So, will this impact you? Are you an avid viewer?

Does this mean I will *finally* be able to remove this frickin app from my phone without rooting it? Apparently I won't be able to remove the NFL app yet...

Yes, I agree. I have wanted this app off of my phone since day 1. And I'm too chicken to root. :-(
