We get it, choosing a baby name is tough. There are books to help with the task, and this thing called the Internet. The list of names is literally endless, since you can choose to name your baby however you wish -- unfortunately not everyone uses sound judgement when doing so. Sure, it's bad form to diss on a baby's name, so we'll direct our facepalm at the parents who decided it was a good idea to tag their offspring "Hashtag."

Hashtag Jameson, to be precise, who was born at 10:00 PM on a Saturday weighing all of 8 pounds. The sole identifying picture floating around the Web shows a cute looking baby whose parents are apparently really into Twitter. Believe it or not, this isn't the first time anyone has ever named their baby after a social networking buzzword.

Hashtags

There's a little girl out there named "Facebook." She's the first born daughter of an Egyptian couple in their twenties, serving as a tribute to the impact social media has in organizing protests in Tahrir Square and other locates, according to Al-Ahram, a popular newspaper in Egypt.

Decide for yourself if Hashtag or Facebook is the worst baby name of all time, though outside of the social networking world, there are some strong contenders. Certainly Harry Pitts has to be in the running, no?

Poor kids! These parents need to think about their kids' futures and whether those names would be wanted. Just sad.

Hashtag is pretty dumb, but just run through a list of celebrity baby names and you'll lose faith in humanity. One couple named theirs "Pilot Inspektor". There's also a Jermajesty, Tu Morrow, and Moon Unit out there.

To clarify, I think "Hashtag" is ridiculous name for an American child.  However, we can't forget the Chinese who name their children after various things such as the Olympics.  So perhaps there's a "Honey Boo Boo" running around somewhere in China?

Wow.... I hate th word "hashtag" to begin with and don't aknowledge anyone who uses the so called word and quickly change the subject. This baby being named one of the dumbest things ever... Wow... Michael Jackson's name Blanket is a better name everyone knows what a blanket is, we knew what a blanket was hundreds to thousands of years and we will know it in the future too. "Hashtag" is a new term hat won't be around decades from now. These parents are retarded. The doctor should have bunched this baby in the face after finding out its name and I hope children AND adults lick on tease bully and beat up his kid for the rest of its life until its parents learn from their mistake and the kid legally changes its name.

Yeah, I think they're going to regret this when in 5 years or so some other form of social media is the next big deal.

I think I can do one better, in 1991 they actually added article 54. to the Civil Code of Quebec to read:

54. Where the name chosen by the father and mother contains an odd compound surname or odd given names which clearly invite ridicule or may discredit the child, the registrar of civil status may suggest to the parents that they change the child's name.

If they refuse to do so, the registrar nevertheless draws up the act of birth and notifies the Attorney General of Québec. The Attorney General may bring the matter before the court within 90 days of the registration of the act to request that the surname of one of the parents be substituted for the surname chosen by the parents or that two given names in common use be substituted for the given names chosen by the parents.

Until the time for bringing the matter before the court expires or, if proceedings are brought, until the judgment acquires the authority of res judicata, the registrar of civil status makes a notation of the notice given to the Attorney General on every copy, certificate and attestation issued on the basis of the act of birth.

..because some parents wanted to name their kid "Spatule": plausibly a pelican from the sub-family Plataleinae, but more likely, yep, you guessed it, a kitchen spatula!

That's sad. I would hate to have it as a name. I hate it when people say "hashtag" in real life in reference to twitter. Always bugs me when people use it on facebook too.
