ViewSonic sent us a note today to let us know it's launching its latest 27-inch professional grade monitor -- the VP2770-LED. One of the things that sets this display apart is that it features a WQHD (Wide Quad High Definition) resolution, or 2560x1440, with 3.7 million pixels squeezed in. That's almost 80 percent more pixels than what's found on a standard Full HD 1080p display.

"For professions such as digital photography, architecture, computer engineering and design where true color and total screen viewing is essential, a professional grade display can make all the difference," said Mark Lufkin, European Managing Director at ViewSonic. "Our VP2770-LED SuperClear IPS monitor is the most comprehensive choice for the professional user, offering stunning color accuracy, wide viewing angles, full ergonomics and multiple inputs for a full range of connectivity."

The connectivity options Lufkin brags about include a DisplayPort, HDMI port, Dual-Link DVI port, VGA port, two USB 3.0 ports, and two USB 2.0 ports. To take advantage of the WQHD resolution, users will have to utilize either DVI-D or DisplayPort; VGA supports up to 2048x1152 and HDMI goes up to 1920x1080.

Other specs include a 12ms response time (G-to-G), 300 cd/m2 brightness, 20,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, IPS panel for wide viewing angles, and a slim bezel design.

ViewSonic says the VP2770-LED will begin shipping in Europe at the beginning of October, though it appears the monitor is also destined for U.S. shores. We spotted the panel for pre-order on Newegg for $800 (MSRP is $850).

Nice to see more monitors finally moving beyond "Full HD". I cringe every time I see a 27"+ "monitor" released with such a poor resolution.

ViewSonic makes some very nice screens. I won a 21" ViewSonic screen here years ago and it still has a great picture.

This screen is drool-worthy,............

You have to be kidding me! Quad HD IS NOT 720p * 4. Its 1920*1080 * 4.

It was bad enough when LCD makers went to the meaningless grey-to-grey to rate the response time over the black-to-black metric in order to make their panels seem faster, but now they're even stretching the meaning of HD.

And by the way Paul, its 8.3 million pixels. Not billions (that would be an AWESOME screen though).
