One might expect Nokia to be first to announce a full series of Windows 8 devices. After all, it sold out to Microsoft in order to ditch Symbian and allow its Lumia hardware to run nothing but Windows Phone. But, it seems that isn't the case. This week, Samsung introduced the first Windows Phone 8 product: the ATIV S. It's a really stunning phone, fairly simplistic in design but classy nonetheless. It's boasting an 8.7mm aluminum chassis, a 4.8" HD Super AMOLED display (using Gorilla Glass 2), a 1.5GHz dual-core chip, 1GB of RAM, an 8MP autofocusing rear camera and a 1.9MP front camera. There's an option between 16GB and 32GB of storage, along with a 2300mAh battery. It has been some time since Samsung cranked out a Windows Phone device, and it's possible that WP8 will be a make-or-break OS for the company.
It clearly poured a lot of hard word into the design of this one, and it'll obviously be watching sales of it versus those Galaxy Android phones as the future unfolds. This, combined with forthcoming Nokia phones, will be WP8's best shot at snagging away market share.

A month after this comes out, the CEO of Samsung will be puzzled as to why people are buying more Galaxy Note IIs and Galaxy S3s than this.

Samsung had to release this phone. It's part of their secret settlement with Microsoft so that they don't get sued for patents on Android that Microsoft won't disclose.

What part of "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn" don't you understand?

This isn't the first Windows Phone from Samsung, it's just the first WP8!

Samsung hedges its bets, they got their own OS in the works as well!

This is indeed nice. I will wait for the nokia phone first tho. I do like samsung phones buy my wifes nexus has really bad reception so i was a bit turned off by that. My SG1 has better reception then the Nexus.

I do really like the Nokia lumia tho so i will wait and see.

Nicoletoledo, Nokia doesn't have plans to release a 41mp pureview wp8 phone, not yet any way.... I believe the Nokia Lumia 920 pureview is around 21mp.
