On September 12, when Apple will (in all likelihood) unveil the iPhone 5 and other must-have iGoodies, the device’s screen maybe thinner than ever while offering a larger display.

According to a Reuters report, LG announced that has begun mass production of a thinner display, which is generally believed to be destined for the upcoming iPhone 5 (or whatever it will be called). LG has finally perfected in-cell panel technology, which essentially removes the need for a second touchscreen layer in the display panel.

Sources further indicated that the new screen will be four inches, which is significantly larger than the current iPhone 4s and no doubt has made many an iPhone user to secretly pine for the larger displays of HTC and Samsung Android-based handsets. Reportedly, it's a 4-inch display, roughly 30% larger than the current model.

LG likely isn’t the only company making displays for the new alleged iPhone 5; Sharp and Toshiba are also likely contributing.

This makes me wonder how Apple is going to deal with Applications. Are they going to now have 3 different types of apps now? As of now they have apps for iPad or iPhone. Are they going to force developers to now design for a 3rd slightly larger screen? That's going to make things bit more chaotic, and if that's the case, I have a feeling developers are going to start leaving out applications for older models. That would displease me.:D

Soon smart phones wont even fit in mens jeans pockets let alone womens...So i understand that everyone wants thinner devices with larger higher resolution screens nowadays but when is it going to become impractical? when everyone carries around phablets? http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/06/rumored-htc-verizon-phablet-may-land-soon/

They have to make sure they don't make it as big as a Notebook/Galaxy Note yet not to small

Large screen would be fine if the overall size of the phone didn't change or if it was a little thinner. The iPhone is about as large a phone as I can stand. I really miss the days of my non-smart flip phone. That thing was small and fit easily into any pocket.
