Plextor's a pretty familiar name in the storage industry, and it's hoping to get even more familiar with the launch of the M5S Series of SSDs. Not surprisingly, the company's playing up "enhanced reliability and performance," suggesting that this new range can hit sustained read/write speed up to 73,000/70,000 IOPS. The company's using an "exclusive" firmware in hopes of keeping long-term reliability in check.

It's also taking the chance to play up some other highly touted features: Instant Restore, Global Wear Leveling, and Bad Block Management. Basically, it's all stuff designed to prevent short-term death, which was a problem way back when SSDs first shipped to the masses. This new-generation drive will ship this month in the following capacities: 64GB (PX-64M5S, $99.99), 128GB (PX-128M5S, $159.99) and 256GB (PX-256M5S, $299.99). Looking for yourself a speedy upgrade? This one might just be it.
