Remember MeeGo? It was all set to be Nokia's next major smartphone push, and it was in the N9, but it was short-lived due to Windows Phone swooping in, stealing all of the glory, and effectively dashing MeeGo's hope of a real future. After all -- Nokia doesn't have the time, interest or resources to focus on two platforms. It's Windows Phone or nothing at this point, but what about those loyal N9 owners, and moreover, those who genuinely like what MeeGo has to offer? Well, there's hope, and hope goes by "Jolla" in this particular case.

The Finnish smartphone "product company" is setting out to pick up where Nokia left off and continue the work on MeeGo. The Jolla team is actually comprised of members from the past MeeGo team, working with "some of the best minds working on MeeGo in the communities." Reportedly, the company will be designing, developing and even selling MeeGo phones. That's no small feat; even giants like HTC are having a tough time keeping profits up under the strain from Apple and Samsung. Jolla also hopes to push out a new MeeGo in due time.

It'll be a challenge, that's for sure, but it's good to see the MeeGo torch being carried on in some small way. Shame WebOS doesn't have a similar torchbearer.

I'm guessing that's not a picture of the phone design, given the big "NOKIA" at the top. Which, is probably a good thing... since that phone looks like it was created with the intention of getting the screen scratched.

What part of "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn" don't you understand?

The phone in the picture is Nokia N9 which has the best UI ever made. The curved, scratch resistant Gorilla glass display reduces reflections and that's why N9 and Lumia 800/900 have the best clarity in sunshine.

webOS may well have a torchbearer, in the form of Phoenix International Communications, here: http://phxdevices.com/ . Could well be vapourware though...
