In a promo that’s sure to encourage students to study very hard at their desks and not play their brand new Xbox 360s all semester, Microsoft is reprising last year’s offer of a free 4GB Xbox 360 for students with the purchase of a qualifying Windows PC worth $699 or more (in the U.S.) or $599 of more (in Canada).

“With all the hard work students put in for their classes in college, they need some downtime, right?”, said Brandon LeBlanc in a post on the Windows Experience Blog. “That’s where the Xbox 360 comes in! To blow off some steam, you can just hop on Xbox LIVE and play some Halo with friends and family far away or just down the hall.” LeBlanc also mentioned in his post that Halo 4 drops this fall, and you can preorder the game already.

First Semester's Temptation

If memory serves, we recall college dorm life consisting more of copious dorm hall gaming sessions (“blowing off steam”) than study sessions. Indeed, our freshman roommate may or may not have spent the entire first semester skipping classes to beat the latest Final Fantasy.

Remember, kids: The Xbox 360 is only free if you also go to class and study hard. Otherwise, it’ll cost your parents $30k in wasted tuition, room, and board.

Man microsoft must have a ton of these that they want to unload before the new xbox comes out. First the scam of an installment plan and now this, although if you need a new pc then this sounds like a deal. I do wonder which microsoft pc "qualifies" for this deal though.

You probably go to walmart and buy a 700 dollar computer and get a coupon with it to redeem it online and get it sent to you

Karanm, Microsoft has done this last year too.

Twistedfate: Im sure if you go into a participating retail store and buy an eligible laptop or desktop and present you college email you will be given the xbox there and then. If you do it online you may have to add the xbox to your cart and apply a code, or it might add it automatically.

What a marketing strategy to sell

knowing that Xbox 360s are like no longer noticed.

Last year they did the same, now they offer xbox upon purchase.

What's for next year? Sony PS3? Trying to earn a little from Xbox that wasn't sold...

Would someone tell me, If someone did actually purchase this?

However if you cycle the puck and wait until one of your forwards are screening the goalie or getting in position for a deflection, the I'd say it's more like a 50/50.
