Need a new drive? Need one that works with Thunderbolt? Western Digital has you covered. WD just announced that they are shipping their first external hard drive with Thunderbolt. The My Book Thunderbolt Duo is a dual-drive system that offers two main configurations: 2 x 2TB and 2 x 3TB. It supports RAID 0, 1 and JBOD options, and unlike many of the prior My Book drives, WD has made these units user-accessible. That's huge for those worried that they may need to replace drives in due time, and it's a major boon. We suspect that WD will pick up quite a few prosumer users who were actively avoiding My Book drives in the past because of this.

Additional features found on the My Book Thunderbolt Duo include out-of-the-box compatibility with Mac OS Time Machine and formatting for HFS + Journaled for Mac; capability for multi-stream workflows; and a 3-year limited warranty.

It's available now at select U.S. retailers (and online) for $599.99 (4GB) / $699.99 (6TB).
