It can be a crowded field in the handset market, with the likes of Apple, Samsung, and others duking it out for the hearts, minds, and money of mobile users, but Huawei is looking to make a statement. The company announced the Ascend D Quad line of smartphones, which are quad-core phones designed to compete at the high end of the market.

As is the case with most products being announced in Barcelona this week, detailed specs aren’t yet available, but PCWorld reports that the line will (for now) be comprised of the Ascend D Quad and Ascend D Quad XL. The phones will run on Huawei’s own processor, the K3V2 (at 1.2GHz or 1.5GHz), which will feature a power throttling design that ratchets up when intensive tasks such as gaming demands it. The battery life should benefit as a result.

The phones will feature Android 4.0 ICS, 4.5-inch screens, 8GB of memory, and an 8MP camera. 4G LTE support is coming, too, as is a quad-core tablet, apparently. There’s no price info as yet, although reportedly it will undercut the competition by as much as 20-50%.

Look for the Ascend D Quad and Ascend D Quad XL to be available in Q2 2012 more or less worldwide.

Wow if they can undercut the competition by 20%-50% then these phones are definitely worth a second look, they have all the specs to compete with the big boys. Looking forward to a Hot review!
