I'm thinking about transferring my domains to another company as well. Not just because of this but also GoDaddy has been terrible with customer support for me. I haven't been able to get my website email working through them for a couple years now and have resorted to using a gmail for my business. It doesn't look very professional for me and Godaddy hasn't even tried to help resolve it. Plus, why they don't have a 1-800 number or reply to their contact forms for support is beyond me. I don't like spending money on long distance charges for them to have me on hold for an hour then not help me.
PCAudioLabs Rok Box MC 7xs - Intel Core i7-2600K - Cooling: PCAL Quiet Operation - Gigabyte Z68 Motherboard - 16GB DDR3-1333 - AMD Radeon HD 5450 - Power Supply: 600 Watts - SRT Drive: Intel 311 SSD (20GB) - Primary Drive: 500GB, 7200RPM, 16MB cache - Audio Drive: 1TB, 7200RPM, 32MB cache - Sample Drive: 2TB, 7200RPM, 64MB cache - OS: Windows 7 Professional x64
At least they learn :D. I have never had to use their support before, but everything has gone good on my side :). Only thing that bugs me is they call you about nothing -.-
It's not really an "about face" if they don't say they're opposed to SOPA, eh?
It sounds like they still support the idea fully, but have only backed off on public support because of the backlash.
As the DNS admin for 200+ domains for 10 plus years, I can tell you: SOPA won't do a damned thing to even slow piracy. All it will do is cause the DNS system to get fractured with most people supporting some non-US-centric system. Anyone who wants to pirate will just have to spend an extra 5 seconds on the process, while there will be tons of abuse by the monopoly players against people implementing new non-infringing services.
I've written my representatives multiple letters on this over the past few months and it is plain to me that they are already bought by big media. It's not a Republican thing, it's not a Democrat thing... it's a thing where the elected officials sold us all out for campaign contributions.
What part of "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn" don't you understand?
Looks like Go Daddy lost 21,054 domains yesterday.
My prediction is that a lot more will still go on the 29th given they completely mishandled the situation... and failed to act on the side of the free flow of information in the first place. I really wish they'd reconsider this situation from square one and speak out against SOPA - I was previously thinking about moving my domains to them because they've been cool enough to sponsor The Linux Action Show for quite some time now.
This bill will screw every individual for the sake of money and monopolys. Honestly banks came foward and said they will not be able to loan to internet business's for less than 300% return cause of the risk involved with having websites owner held responsible for users is absurd.
You dont shut down chevy cause one driver in a chevy was driving drunk ect. Even if this would stop piracy which it wouldnt it could seriously be bypassed in 1 minute or less if you know whater your doing.
Any logical person can see this threatens everything so a few rich people can get richer. If you game no more video reviews no more game mods no more unofficial game guides no more parodys no more gameplay videos cause they all contain copyrighted material.
And it doesnt mean the ideas all bad but the sheer amount of power it would give literally all I would have to do if I wanted to shut your website down. Is make a forum username Megaman2000 technically copyright infringement and they can shut your whole site down. Skipping judge trial and everything else.
Know who else supports SOPA? Microsoft: http://www.opencongress.org/bill/112-s968/money
Any company with a monopoly position, like Microsoft, the MPAA, the RIAA, Walmart, etc. is going to support these two horrible bills, because they know they will never be used against the bigger company in a dispute. SOPA will entrench them more as it stops all fair-use of their content and competition from startups.
Interesting fact: Go Daddy helped write SOPA.
Interesting fact #2: The way the law is written, Go Daddy is exempt from it.

Do so. I used to have my domain hosted at Godaddy before I transferred it to my hosting provider due to more affordable pricing being available if I bundle the domain with the site. I had my website at a host that wasn't exactly suitable (apparently they were using really outdated versions of server software, causing my website to not work properly.), ever since I moved, everything has been working perfectly.
Though enough of that, if they support SOPA and they aim to have everything to gain from it, you shouldn't certainly support that company. Move off of there ASAP!
