Apple May Be Acquiring Flash Storage Maker For $400-$500 Million

I hope this does not happen. The acquisition would only mean the loss of another flash maker to a company that has a history of not playing well with others.... 

It will save apple money by having a in house storage maker,but i have a feeling they might use it to put the squeeze on others.

Well of course apple would like to have a in house maker for all their products :D, just more profit for them :).

This was bound to happen...with Samsung being one of Apple's main parts supplier, it is probably wise for them to look elsewhere and not depend on their competitor for parts.

First they buy a silicon manufacturing company and now they buy this? Apple would love to cut Samsung out and put itself in as the middleman. While this may lead to Apple lowing it's own costs and using this to improve their own products; it does nothing for the consumer and it just takes out competitors in the market, competitors that are seriously needed in order to provide variety and innovation to a very important market in the world. I mean if we took out alot of the competitors, then we'd just have domination on our hands; a stiffening of creativity.

Apple oh I thought they went out of business!

Hopefully since Apple is shifting towards in house component and part suppliers, this can divert some revenue that supports company's like Foxconn who's workers are treated almost as if disposable.

Wouldn't this help lower Apple's cost, which would hopefully translate into lower costs for consumers of Apple products? I think it's a smart business decision by Apple, which will benefit those buying Apple products.

Omegadoom, either that or they just earn more of a profit and leave consumers out of it... I mean people already buy it at this price, is there a need to lower prices? Its a business after all.

Well the acquisition of it's own semiconductor processor was supposed to lower the cost of their products but we still got iPhones and iPads that are expensive without the contract attached to it lowering it's price to a more attractive $199-299, depending on which version you cost and whether or not you were willing to sign a 2-year contract and pay a required monthly data fee, even if you never used the data function of the iPhone.

I have doubts this'll lower the prices but I am certain that it'll increase the amount of control Apple has over it's products and put Apple in a futher position of power, I mean why would you need Samsung when you have your own companies that does the stuff Samsung would usually do?

Apple lower their prices... I highly doubt it and was surprised they put some of their devices on sale for about $20 off for black friday. This is most definitely a fail for consumers if they buy this company it just means more of a choke hold on the industry and more suing for patent infringement.

They might put the squeeze on others? No, the WILL put the squeeze. This is Apple we're talking about.
