There's a new Skype in town, and it's bringing an awful lot of new features to Google's Android OS. Skype 2.6 for Android allows users to send photos and videos to friends or family from Skype on your Android device, and it's now even easier to share those special moments with your loved ones or send files and view documents on the go while on a business trip. And it's free and works over WiFi or 3G on a mobile data plan.

As well as bringing you photo, video and file sending, we've also improved battery life and video quality with Skype 2.6 for Android on devices using NVIDIA's Tegra 2 chipset, which include amongst others; the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Motorola XOOM and Acer Iconia Tablet. Now you can take full advantage of the big screen with better video quality than ever before.

The company is also working hard to extend the list of whitelisted devices for video support. These handsets have been tested by Skype's Engineering Team to ensure the best possible video experience. Latest additions include the HTC Amaze 4G and Motorola DROID RAZR. In general, almost anyone with an Android device running Android 2.2 (Froyo) or above can try out Skype video calling for free*. We'll let you know if you can turn on video calling when you first start up Skype on a non whitelisted handset.
As always, Skype's free, so feel free to give it a download and shout below if things do / don't work out.

I would like to give Skype a try; talking on the phone is good for everyday chats but sometimes I want to see the person when I am talking to them for things like birthdays and special occasions. Probably time to jump on the bandwagon and see how easy it really is.

nice to see its is still being offered as a free service. I have yet to use skype on my phone, I downloaded the app but just haven't found the need yet. Though I have used it on the PC and it works great!

The really great part is that the new skype features work on pretty much all android tablets. I am not an apple fan and i always like to see companies who share my views. The great thing is that now we can compete with apple easily and still use android which is awesome.

Side note: it works with every tablet that they have in the giveawa this week. AWWWWWYEAH

my cousin introduced me with Skype because we need to communicate over voice since it's faster than typing in SC2 Arranged Team

Voice quality is crystal clear and I love it !

imo, I'd rather go for Skype than Ventrilo =)

Never used Skype before. These new features make want to try it out, especially the filesharing.
