Jedius:

What exactly constitutes a "quality" post? Does it have to be in a specific forum/article, or can it be in anything that peaks your interest?

Also, are you the guys who would send the announcement of the winners in an email, or does that come from MSI/NVIDIA? I ask because I only allowed notifications from this site, not its partners. Do I need to change that?

Thanks,

-Jed

Well... First off, welcome to HotHardware! Anyways, what constitute as quality is just a helpful, informative post in any forum/article; remember that they watch all of the discussions when the contests goes on. I personally think that a quality post is just made by just posting; don't be shy, were a hugely sized community and there is lots of room to let your opinions roam free! Don't worry about anything else, just post; but don't make it seem like your posting just to win a contest, you're trying to contribute here.

Also the winners (decided by HotHardware I think.) are usually announced on the post made after the contest winner is announced. It may not work out for your needs but if you keep checking this site and contributing then it's not going to be as much as an issue.

Hope that answers all of your questions and again, welcome to HotHardware! Now get posting!

I just bought a new laptop and I sure wish I would have done some research before doing so.  It looks like this is the place to do it.

Yeah be sure to ask around here if you are unsure about a product. I will be asking here in a few months about TV advice. Everyone is pretty supportive and it's relatively small. I hope you stay even after the giveaway is over!

As far as it goes if a contest is lightning, well then it strikes around here on a pretty regular basis, and it seems like in general it will be happening at an even more constant ratio at least until next year :)

So... I see both motherboards look good. I have to wonder if MSI put any improvements into Military Class III that make it better then Military Class II.

I am sure there are some improvements to the newer sandy bridge e chip boards but I am not sure what. Do you go with the board that supports an affordable chip Z68??? or do you go with the hottest in current tech that will support Sandy-Bridge e and then most likely Ivy bridge when it becomes available. Now that is a dilemma.

Regardless, good luck to all.

Well it's mostly easy for me... I'll take the newer motherboard and buy Ivy Bridge in the future. I mean it's just around the corner and supposedly it's going to offer more performance and less heat due to the 22MM die shrink.

I recently got a Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 for $117.19 (after tax) to go with my i5 2500K for $158.99 (after tax) from Micro Center. I thought this was a hell of a deal and this won't be my Super-Mega-Awesome build yet. I do think it will get me by for 3-5 ish years though and allow me to hunt for awesome deals on the next gen stuff by then.

Of course, I'm on a kind of value-oriented kick (as well as budget) right now. If money was no object, for sure the newer stuff would get the nod. I just don't think the extra performance is enough to offset the price for what I'm trying to do right now. I think for my 1900x1200 27" monitor this current gen with bargain prices should be enough to still put out good enough frame rates. My next build will be more excessive for E-Peen purposes. :)

"Good Luck Neil. I know that you can accomplish that. or at least 32GB of Quad 'Spankin' 2133 Memory ."

I ~do~ have a total of 32GB of 2133 RAM here already,.........(if I strip my existing systems down).........I'd have to buy a CPU for it though. I have a cooler already.

But I'm willing to try,........Smile

I'll take either one or whatever is left over. Smile

Yeah I think you have a good point, go for the Z68, those Extreme chips are too expensive at this point to justify.

Made me think of the game Doom.

AND

How much time I spent playing that.

I spent far more time playing the original doom that Doom3. Quake though was my first real multiplayer FPS that I played and put many hours into playing that in a clan.

I agree Jedius I would love to have any of these as any of them would be very usable although I would love to have the GPU and could really use it any of those motherboards I could use to build a new computer for my 5 year old as the big thing she put on her list to Santa is her own computer and monitor.

Luckily it seems I finally got a job yesterday after 1.5 years which will likely be starting (Orientation) Monday/Tuesday of next week. SO I might be able to put something together for her on that note :)

Congrats rapid1 welcome back into the employed world. Good luck with the new position I hope it works out for you. Are you looking to build just a basic system for her? she won't be playing BF3 or anything that graphic intensive will she? I was thinking it would be like what I normally do is build a new system for me and pass my older systems down to other family members who use their computers for basic web surfing mostly.

Thanks! It sure does. The mill I was working in closed back in Jan 09. Went back to school for 18 months, got my Associate degree and CompTIA certs and then started the job search. Ended up moving to western PA to look for work. Finally paid off and am now working for a major pc manufacturer as a repair tech.
